Just in time for Halloween and in the spirit of mysterious things that go bump in the night (or threaten from the stars), Starkville Community Theatre will perform a public reading of alien-invasion classic The War of the Worlds. This live reading will feature a small cast with an assist from sound effects and participation by YOU in the audience.

The War of the Worlds: The 1938 Radio Script by Howard E. Koch, based on the novel by H.G. Wells, recreates the infamous 1938 broadcast from New York's Mercury Theatre. Narrated by Orson Welles, this original script detailing the frightening tale of an extraterrestrial takeover terrified listeners at the time who were convinced that an actual alien invasion of Earth was taking place. On the terror scale, it's fairly modest today (though it could still frighten younger audience members), and the content (per the broadcasting standards of the time) is certainly family-friendly for a 2020 audience.

A cast of six - Louie P. Gallo, Jacob Jordan, Jordan Prather, Cindy Ruff, Art Shirley, and Krista Vowell - will create the whole cast of characters as they read the script from the stage of the new pavilion inside the park, and they need your help to fully tell the story.
