While searching for a theme for the 2009 summer musical revue, we heard that members of our local National Guard's 2nd-114th Strike Battalion were being deployed to Iraq this summer, and suddenly it all fell into place.

It was such fun to create Let Freedom Sing because it allowed us to not only salute the men and women of our great armed forces, but also to honor the hundreds of entertainers who have performed for our troops through more than 60,000 USO shows over the last 60-plus years.

It also allowed us to perform music from some wonderful, yet varied, times in our history. This is a theme we hope will resonate with each of you. A hero is defined as one of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his or her brave deeds and noble qualities. That certainly fits the men and women of the armed forces. But we each have other heroes in our life. And we would like to dedicate this show to them as well.
