Lend
Me a Tenor
by Kaufman and Hart
Lend Me a Tenor,
set in the 1930s, depicts the hysterical undertakings of a Cleveland-based
young opera company that has acquired the world-renowned tenor Tito
Merilli for a fundraising event. Tito is placed under the direction
and surveillance of Max, the lackey of the scheming owner of the theater
owner, Saunders.
This comedy involves
the tradition of writers Kaufman & Hart (You Can't Take it With
You), with more celebrity worship, death, and sex.
